Advanced High School Filmmakers — Enrollment Agreement
Version 2.0 — Last updated: October 3, 2026
This Enrollment Agreement ("Agreement") is between the person enrolling a student in Advanced High School Filmmakers — either the student's parent or legal guardian, or a student who is 18 or older ("you") — and Andrew Wells Ryder, Greta Díaz Moreau, Fiona Obertinca, Ari Shapiro, and Juli Del Prete ("the Instructors," "we," or "us"). You accept this Agreement by checking the agreement box and completing payment on the enrollment page. Questions about this Agreement can be sent to advancedhsfilm@gmail.com.
1. About the course
Advanced High School Filmmakers is a 10-week online screenwriting and filmmaking course taught over Zoom by Andrew Wells Ryder, Greta Díaz Moreau, Fiona Obertinca, Ari Shapiro, and Juli Del Prete, running January 24, 2027 through April 4, 2027, with no class on March 28, 2027 (Easter weekend). The course includes weekly group classes and, for students enrolled with workshops, four one-on-one workshop sessions with an Instructor. This is an independent course. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Northwestern University, the National High School Institute, or any other institution.
2. Tuition and refunds
Tuition is $880 for the course, or $1,290 for the course with four one-on-one workshop sessions. Tuition is paid in full at enrollment, and the student's spot is confirmed once payment is complete.
Refund policy: You'll get a full refund if you withdraw before the first class, and a 50% refund if you withdraw by the end of week two (February 6, 2027). There are no refunds after February 6, 2027.
If we cancel an individual class, we will reschedule it or refund the prorated cost of that class. If we cancel the entire course before it begins, we will refund tuition in full. A student removed from the course under Section 4 is not entitled to a refund.
3. Recording of sessions
All one-on-one Zoom sessions between a student and an Instructor will be recorded, without exception. This protects students and Instructors alike, the same way an open classroom door does. Zoom displays a recording notice at the start of each recorded session.
- One-on-one sessions take place in Ari Shapiro's Zoom meeting room. After each session, the recording is uploaded to a course-owned Google Drive folder and removed from Zoom.
- Recordings are reviewed only if a concern is raised, or at the request of the student or their parent/guardian.
- Parents/guardians may request to view their own child's one-on-one recordings by emailing advancedhsfilm@gmail.com.
- One-on-one recordings are never used for marketing and are never shared outside the Instructors, except where required by law or to address a safety concern.
- Recordings are deleted within 30 days after the course ends, unless they are needed to address a concern that has been raised.
Group classes are recorded so that students can rewatch them or catch up on a class they missed. Group class recordings are shared only with enrolled students and the Instructors through a course-owned Google Drive folder, and are deleted within 30 days after the course ends. Screenshots or short clips from group classes may be used as described in Section 6.
By accepting this Agreement, you consent to these recordings and confirm that you have told the student about this recording policy.
4. Communication, safety, and conduct
Instructors communicate with students only through advancedhsfilm@gmail.com, the official course group chat, and scheduled course Zoom sessions. Parents/guardians are welcome to be copied on any communication. Instructors will not text, call, or message students privately through personal phone numbers or social media.
Any concern about an Instructor, another student, or the course can be sent to advancedhsfilm@gmail.com or raised directly with any Instructor. If an Instructor has reason to believe a student may be at risk of harm, we may contact the student's parent/guardian and, where appropriate, the relevant authorities.
Students are expected to treat Instructors and classmates with respect. We may remove a student from the course for harassment, discriminatory behavior, or conduct that disrupts other students' learning.
5. Student work
Students keep all rights to the scripts, films, and other work they create in this course. We will not share, publish, or use any student's work outside the course without written permission from the student, and from a parent/guardian if the student is under 18.
6. Photo and video release
You give us permission to use screenshots or short clips from group classes on the course website and social media. One-on-one sessions will never be used. Students appear under the display name they choose in Zoom, so a student who does not want to be identified by their full name should use only their first name as their Zoom display name. We will not add a student's school or contact information, and no payment is owed for this use. You can withdraw this permission at any time by emailing advancedhsfilm@gmail.com. We will then stop any future use and promptly remove the student's image from our website and the social media accounts we control. We cannot recall content that others have already shared.
7. College application support
Any feedback on college application essays or materials is advisory only. The Instructors do not write application materials for students and make no guarantee about admissions outcomes.
8. Technology, supervision, and release
This course takes place online. The parent/guardian is responsible for supervising the student's internet use and for the student's equipment, internet connection, and home environment during course activities. We are not responsible for technical problems on the student's end or for outages of Zoom or other third-party services.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you (and the student, if 18 or older) release and agree to hold harmless the Instructors from any claims arising from the student's participation in the course, except claims arising from an Instructor's gross negligence or intentional misconduct.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Instructors' total liability for any claim related to the course will not exceed the tuition you paid. This limit does not apply to claims arising from an Instructor's gross negligence or intentional misconduct.
10. Changes
We may adjust class dates or times with reasonable notice to enrolled families. We may update this Agreement for future enrollments, but the version you accepted governs your current enrollment unless you agree to a new version.
11. Electronic acceptance and records
You accept this Agreement by checking the agreement box and completing payment on the enrollment page. That acceptance has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature. By accepting, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the student being enrolled, or that you are the student and are 18 or older. We keep a record of your acceptance, including your name, email address, the date and time, and the Agreement version. A link to this Agreement is shown on the enrollment confirmation page you see after payment, and this Agreement remains available on the course website.
12. General
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California. If any part of this Agreement is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. This Agreement is the complete agreement between you and the Instructors regarding the course. If anything on the enrollment page conflicts with this Agreement, this Agreement controls.
